If you are a friend on facebook or like my photography page, you will already know. But in case you missed it I am now on my final countdown for multiple operations “get fit”, “clean house within an inch of it’s life”, “finish packing”, “learn Spanish”, “set up business/ blog to survive while I’m away” and “finish all outstanding editing/ paperwork”.ย  All rolled in together it’s AKA “OPERATION CAMINO“!

My husband and I are heading to Spain in 16 days to walk the Camino de Santiago. Starting just over the border (oh, and over that wee little mountain range the Pyrenees) in France we will walk just under 800km over 30(ish) days to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. There are so many reasons to do this walk, which I may delve into later, but really it all just boils down to “Why not?!”

We are raising money for Legacy WA, which is an amazing organisation that is in great need of support. Legacy cares for the families of deceased and incapacitated veterans, and receives no direct government funding. It relies on the support of you and me, so every single dollar counts. As we are also counting down to ANZAC day it is the perfect time to stop and give thanks to those who have given so much in order for us to to live in the fabulous way we do, in this fabulous country of ours. To give thanks to those who are currently serving, thanks to those who have given their lives, and thanks to the families they have left behind.

Our target is $3000 – which is just under $4 for every kilometre we will walk. I’ll be posting photos as we go (as much as I can! Not too sure how much internet we will have), so if you enjoy flicking through my blog just think of your donation as entry to an online charity exhibition ๐Ÿ˜‰

Buenos dias y buen camino!

[quoteRight]Cause when you’re smilin’…keep on smilin’,
the whole world smiles with you! [/quoteRight]

When I photographed the beautiful Bec & George last year with the lovely Kellie Sinclair, I couldn’t stop smiling.

Because Bec & George didn’t stop smiling. And yes, there were beautiful tender quiet moments, and yes there was a tear or two shed.

But the way I remember their day is how their love simply couldn’t be contained and simply radiated from them in huge smiles and laughs and fun.

Here are some of my favourite smiles from Bec & George. I challenge you to look at them and not smile too ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Kellie for having me shoot with you, and thank you Bec & George for having me along as part of your gorgeous gorgeous day! xx

Inevitably, at least once per wedding or portrait session, my happy dance makes an appearance. It is embarrassing for everyone, but no matter how cool, calm and collected I pretend to be, I’ll spy something awesome on the back of my camera and dance away.

This photo, taken of the gorgeous Cam & James on the second day of awesomeness with Jen & Tasj late last year, was definitely a happy dance photo ๐Ÿ™‚

In fact, there were a lot more happy dances on that day, and I’ll post some more for you later ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

While in Sydney at the Baby as Art workshop at the end of last year we had two gorgeous expecting mums, Heidi & Jodie, in our group.

We headed to the beach one afternoon to photograph some seaside babies, but our little seaside baby was not very interested in having her picture taken! So what do photographers do when they have cameras, gorgeous light and beautiful subjects? Make them pose of course!

Here are my portraits from the afternoon of absolute delightful light.
Thank you Heidi & Jodie! You are both simply stunning! I hope your beautiful babies are making you smile every day ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

Happy Monday! This was meant to be a “Friday Favourites” post, but wordpress and I weren’t seeing eye-to-eye last week, so you have it Monday instead!
Welcome to the fabulous crazy end of year madness that is the Christmas season. Every year it involves spending too much money, then resolving to budget better next year, eating way too much food, then planning the diet that always starts on Monday, wrapping presents only to wait impatiently for the recipient to rip the paper open, and a lot of microseconds filled with sighs and exclamations of “where has this year gone?”.

If you are stuck for some Christmas present ideas, here are some of my favourite things that may help!

1) Carla Coulson

Carla has just released her third beautiful book “Chasing A Dream” and it is available at all fabulous booksellers (or online). Better yet, buy all three of her books as they are absolutely magical and guaranteed winner in the best-present-of-the-year stakes.ย  Filled with her amazing dreamy, nostalgic, timeless photographs, and completed with her amazing prose, I pick up her books again and again and never tire of them. Carla creates and captures a magical combination ofย  light, movement, and emotion on black and white film. Her colour work is heavenly too, but her black & white work makes me dance. Perfect for anyone who loves photography, film, travel, people, fashion, beautiful stories… pretty much everybody!ย  Warning: They will fill you with wanderlust as you too dream of running away to Italy and France! More of her gorgeous work can be found on her blog.

“What is the difference between a good portrait and a great one?…It’s about the emotion transmitted between me and my sitter. It is found in those special moments when the world comes to a halt and all is forgotten but the electricity created by the two of us. A long time ago, I learnt that a portrait is a little bit of magic that passes between two people. It is a love affair lasting just minutes.”Carla Coulson

2) Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier was nanny in New York and Chicago, who spent her spare hours documenting the streets where she lived. An amazing talent that was only discovered in 2007 when a Chicago real estate agent purchased a box of 30,000 her negatives. Her work is mesmerizing.
Vivian’s amazing street photography covers from 1950 – 1990s, and she left behind over 100,000 negatives which are currently being scanned and cataloged. If you are lucky enough to be in New York City at the moment, head over to the Howard Greenberg Gallery where her work is being displayed from December 15 – January 28. And if you are stuck for a present to buy me, pick a print, any print, and I will LOVE it (and you) forever! ๐Ÿ™‚ย  A book of her work has also been released which can be purchased online.

3) Lorna Jane

My workout wardrobe is 95% Lorna Jane (the other 5% being official event t-shirts). But it’s not just my workout wardrobe, it has even spilled out into my “casual” drawer as I simply had too much of it to be contained in one drawer (and some of it is too pretty to get sweaty!). Their marketing is fantastic, their flash sales are impossible to resist, their clothing is comfy and gorgeous, and I love their inspirational t-shirts. My favourite: “I could give up chocolate, but I’m not a quitter”. Their motto Move, Nourish, Believe (MOVE your body everyday; NOURISH from the inside out & BELIEVE anything is possible.) makes exercise un-scary (totally a word) and not all intimidating and super-athletey (again, a real word).
I was even a giant dork and lined up to meet Lorna Jane and purchase her new book (thereby overcoming my deep-rooted fear that people who line up to meet celebrities somehow develop an urge to watch Home & Away and believe Today Tonight is good reporting…).ย  So worth it – Lorna Jane was fabulously friendly and insanely gorgeous (as well as intelligent and successful). Yes I have a new girl crush. Fabulous, beautiful clothing and philosophy – go get yourself some. Warning: It is addictive.
Awesome Christmas present alert – her newly released book is fantastic.ย  I’m onto my second read.ย  Filled with inspiring quotes, it takes you through the Lorna Jane brand journey, and through Lorna Jane’s personal life philosophy, as well as throwing in some great recipes too.

Meeting Lorna Jane at her Karrinyup store.

My besties and I after finishing the Anaconda Adventure race in our gorgeous Lorna Jane green t-shirts.ย  No, we aren’t super-athletey: out motto was “We complete, we don’t compete!” ๐Ÿ˜‰

4) A Very She & Him Christmas

Get yourself in the Christmas spirit by listening to this very cruisy chilled out version of all the Christmas classics. Although most of the lyrics of the Christmas classics aren’t exactly applicable to the Perth summer, Zooey Deschanel’s voice is so adorable I almost believe her when she says “baby it’s cold outside.” Turn it up, and sing along ๐Ÿ™‚

5) Balenciaga

My new fragrance. It smells pretty. That’s all I have to say about that ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck with your present shopping, and I wish all of you an amazing Christmas! xx

In amongst last minute Christmas orders and general silly season madness I managed to squeeze in two beautiful days with Jen Regan of Anna Rose photography and Natasja Kremers of NK photography last week.ย  I am in love with the pure beauty of their photos; so exquisitely elegant and sophisticated so I was very eager to learn some of their secrets!

The first day was spent with the stunning Ari and Kees. Such a beautiful couple so obviously in love. They were stealing little kisses and whispers and squeezes all afternoon. Combined with the AMAZING light, it was an absolutely magical shoot. Thank you so much for modeling for us!! ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Here are some of my photos from the afternoon.

Thank you so much to Jen & Tasj for a fabulous 2 days. More to come soon from day 2!! ๐Ÿ™‚ xx
