Road Trip!

Quite a bit has been happening over the past few weeks, hence my lack of blog attention. Firstly, my husband returned home after being away for a loooooooooooong time for work, secondly I celebrated (mourned?) another birthday, and thirdly to celebrate the return of the husband we went on a good-old-fashioned road trip.

In an attempt to thaw our frozen bones and escape from the cold cold winter Perth is experiencing this year (it is colder this year, right?  Or is it just the extra years taking their toll on my old-lady bones?) we drove North. 1000km North!

We saw the HMAS Sydney memorial in Geraldton, fed wild Dolphins and went sailing in Monkey Mia, hiked around the gorges of Kalbarri and went on an amazing plane ride out over the Abrolhos islands.  We covered a total of 2100km, ate gourmet toasted cheese roadside servo sandwiches, drove past a huge notorious bikie gang and their 6 police car entourage, admired bright bright yellow canola fields, all to a quality soundtrack provided by a service station purchased mixed CD with awesome tunes such as “Ice Ice Baby”, “I wanna dance with somebody”, “Boom shake the room” and “mambo number 5”.

Kalbarri was the highlight, and it is definitely on our to-do list again.  We did manage to escape some of the cold, but the rain was in massive supply which made  the photo taking interesting!

The only downsides were the self-rated “4 star resort” we stayed in in Geraldton (not so 4 star), and I missed my dogs. They had a fabulous care-taker, but I am a big dork and like our evening cuddles on the couch. Plus they are the only ones who laugh at all my jokes. Seriously – they think I’m hilarious.

I did manage to get a few beautiful photos, but it is so hard to do justice to the raw beauty up there.  You’ll have to take a road trip yourselves to truly appreciate it. I can lend you some hip happenin tunes to listen to.

Click on the pics to see them nice and big!
